António José Seguro has officially taken office as Portugal’s president, marking the start of a new political chapter for the country. The inauguration ceremony took place in parliament in Lisbon during a formal session. Seguro succeeds Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who steps down after two consecutive terms and a decade in office. The former secretary-general of the Socialist Party was elected on February 8 in a runoff, defeating André Ventura. In his first address to parliament, the new president highlighted major challenges facing Portugal, including low wages, sluggish economic growth, an ageing population and problems in the justice system. He also criticized recent political instability and frequent elections, pledging to help end what he called the country’s “electoral fever.” Material taken from https://t.me/s/pronews_portugal
