António José Seguro was the clear winner of the second round of the presidential elections — the first held in 40 years — and was elected President of the Republic with the highest vote share ever, surpassing the record set by Mário Soares. Seguro won with 66.8% of the vote against Ventura’s 33.2%.

Seguro secured victory across the entire national territory, winning in all districts and in both autonomous regions, losing only among voters abroad.
