The government has introduced new rules to make driver training more flexible by expanding the role of mentors. Learners will now be allowed to complete practical driving with mentors on equal footing with certified instructors, rather than as a supplement. Mentors must meet strict criteria, including at least 10 years of driving experience, a clean record, and completion of a road safety course. Learners are still prohibited from carrying passengers or driving on highways and must obtain separate insurance. Mentor-based practice can only begin after initial driving school training (at least 12 hours and 250 km). Driving schools will continue to assess candidates’ readiness for the final exam.
