Starting April 10, a deposit return scheme will be introduced for beverage packaging, adding €0.10 to the price of aluminum cans and plastic bottles. The surcharge is refundable when containers are returned at designated collection points. The system, named Volta, revives a concept similar to the refundable bottle deposits used between the 1960s and 1990s. Initially, it applies only to plastic and aluminum, excluding glass. Returns will be accepted nationwide, including in supermarkets. Consumers can receive refunds in cash, store credit, bank transfers, or donate the amount. Authorities aim to raise plastic recycling rates from 51% to 90% by 2029. Material taken from https://t.me/s/pronews_portugal
