Lisbon will test its tsunami warning system on March 24, 2026, with four sirens activated along the city’s waterfront between Praça do Comércio and Alcântara. The drill, called “Lisbon Wave 26,” will run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with sirens sounding every 30 minutes and broadcasting messages in Portuguese and English. Organized by the city council in coordination with Civil Protection, the exercise aims to improve public awareness, including among tourists and foreign residents. Authorities plan to expand the system to ten sirens by 2029. Mayor Carlos Moedas said the initiative strengthens preparedness in a city exposed to risks such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and floods.
