Lisbon’s Graça funicular is set to reopen in April following a technical inspection, municipal transport operator Carris said. The review confirmed the system is in good condition and meets safety requirements. Operations were suspended after the deadly accident involving the Glória lift on September 3 that killed 16 people and injured more than 20. In response, authorities temporarily shut down the Graça, Bica and Lavra funiculars for comprehensive checks. An independent technical commission concluded Graça can operate safely under existing standards. The operator is now conducting additional tests and strengthening safety measures. Final approval must be granted by the Institute for Mobility and Transport. The line links Mouraria and Graça, carries up to 14 passengers and takes about 90 seconds to complete the route.
