Portugal’s competition authority, Autoridade da Concorrência, has proposed allowing customers to retain their IBAN when moving to another bank, aiming to remove barriers to switching providers. The measure is part of a package of 16 recommendations submitted to the government and the Banco de Portugal. The regulator identified obstacles limiting consumer choice and mobility. Other proposals include transferring oversight of the account-switching process to an independent body, upgrading the online fee comparison tool to include savings products, scrapping early repayment fees for variable and mixed-rate loans during the variable period, capping charges on fixed-rate contracts, and increasing transparency around broker commissions. The recommendations follow public consultations launched in July 2025. Material taken from https://t.me/s/lepta
