Traffic on highways in Portugal’s Algarve and interior regions surged after tolls were abolished on January 1, 2025. According to Jornal de Negócios, vehicle volumes rose by 17% to 42% in December. The sharpest increases were recorded in Pinhal Interior, with traffic up 42% on the A13-1 and about 37% on the A13. In the Algarve, the Via do Infante saw a nearly 28% rise, while Beira Interior grew by 27.1%. Northern and central routes also posted gains of around 17–18%.
