You may have long felt that AIMA works well and efficiently? Now its employees have decided to go on strike as well. The Portuguese Union of Migration Specialists (STM) has announced a four-day strike at the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA), scheduled for June 1, 2, 3 and 5, 2026.
STM said the action is driven by serious structural problems within the agency, including deteriorating working conditions, staff shortages, the absence of a dedicated career framework, and a growing workload for employees. The union also criticized delays in migrant regularization processes, which affect both agency staff and foreign nationals, as well as the outsourcing of technically complex functions, arguing that it reduces the quality of public services.
STM accused the government of failing to honor previous commitments and called on the authorities to begin negotiations. Well, it looks like everyone will have to wait a little longer.
