From April 22, 2026, crossing borders within the EU with cats or dogs without a European pet passport will no longer be permitted. The new rules aim to ensure full traceability of animal movements and curb document fraud and illegal trade. The passport must include a readable microchip, a valid rabies vaccination, records of health status and treatments, and confirmation that the animal meets the minimum travel age. Violations will trigger strict penalties, including fines, quarantine, denial of entry, and mandatory return of the animal to the country of origin. Enforcement of these requirements will be significantly strengthened. Material taken from https://t.me/s/portugalpages
