Wealthy immigrants living in Portugal have urged President António José Seguro and the government to introduce transitional measures under the new citizenship law, which increases the minimum residency requirement for citizenship from five to ten years.
The appeal was signed by more than 2,000 people linked to the association Security, Justice and Continuity, including non-CPLP nationals holding business visas, digital nomad visas, visas for financially independent individuals, and highly qualified professionals. They argue that they relocated, invested, paid taxes, and integrated into Portuguese society based on the previous rules.
The signatories also criticized administrative delays by public authorities and warned that prioritizing passport categories over actual integration could lead to discrimination.
