Portugal’s weather agency IPMA has issued a yellow heat warning due to persistently high temperatures. Forecasts for central and southern parts of the country exceed 30°C, while temperatures in the Tagus Valley could reach 40°C. Despite the extreme conditions, the event does not yet meet IPMA’s scientific definition of a heatwave, which requires at least six consecutive days with maximum temperatures exceeding the seasonal average by 5°C or more. The current episode is expected to last around three days and is classified as a heat event. A strong subtropical anticyclone over Western Europe is trapping hot air over the Iberian Peninsula and drawing additional warm air from North Africa. Material taken from https://t.me/portugal_and_me
