Anyone who was complaining about the wind and chilly nights may soon be wishing for cooler weather again. Portugal is heading back into a spell of intense heat. According to forecasts from IPMA, temperatures across many parts of the country are expected to range between 35°C and 40°C through Saturday, June 13.
The warming trend began on Wednesday, but the sharpest increase is expected today, with temperatures in some areas potentially jumping by as much as 10 degrees. Friday is forecast to be the hottest day of the week, with the mercury likely to hit 40°C across large parts of the country.
Another factor will make conditions feel even hotter: weaker winds. Nighttime temperatures are also finally set to rise, with some regions expected to remain at or above 20°C through the night of June 13–14.
Yellow weather warnings for high temperatures have been issued across most districts of the country. A slight easing of the heat is not expected until Sunday. If the temperatures become too uncomfortable, heading to the coast is often the best option — the ocean usually keeps conditions noticeably cooler.
