If your Portuguese residence permit is due to expire in September or October 2026, there is good news: AIMA has opened online renewals for these categories through its Renewal Portal.

Applications can be submitted directly via the portal at portal-renovacoes.aima.gov.pt. After registering, the system will verify the applicant’s details, generate a payment slip, and, once payment has been received, begin processing the renewal application. Applicants will receive an electronic confirmation that their request has been accepted for processing.

At this stage, the service is available only for residence permits expiring in September and October. However, AIMA says it will gradually extend access to the portal to permits expiring in subsequent months, allowing residents to renew their documents well in advance rather than waiting until the last minute.

If your residence permit expires later, it is worth checking the portal periodically, as your renewal window may become available in the near future.
