President António José Seguro has signed a parliamentary decree amending the citizenship law, increasing the required period of legal residence for foreigners. The waiting time rises from five to seven years for EU and Portuguese-speaking countries’ citizens, and to 10 years for all others. The law will take effect the day after official publication. Protections remain for children of immigrants born in the country, including access to healthcare and education. Applications already submitted will be processed under previous rules, and administrative delays will not affect residency calculations. A separate decree proposing citizenship revocation as a penalty is under constitutional review. Material taken from https://t.me/s/lepta
