Portugal’s Praia de Monte Clérigo, located on the Costa Vicentina coast in the country’s southwest, has ranked first in the list of Europe’s best beaches for 2026 compiled by European Best Destinations.

The annual ranking is compiled in several stages. Editors first select ten beaches in each country, evaluating natural beauty, infrastructure, accessibility, and atmosphere. An international panel of travelers then determines the final list of the top 30 destinations.

Monte Clérigo received high marks for its combination of nature, authenticity, and calm atmosphere away from overcrowded resorts. The beach is located within a natural park and, according to the ranking, offers more affordable accommodation compared with Portugal’s more popular resort destinations.
