The association Pão a Pão is launching a series of four Saturday assemblies in Portugal, where 50 immigrants of different nationalities, ages and social backgrounds will prepare recommendations for the authorities on immigration, healthcare, housing and other key issues.
Participants will work in groups of ten before discussing their proposals during a joint plenary session. The first meeting will take place on May 30 and representatives of AIMA have been invited to attend. The project is being carried out with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
According to association president Francisca Gorjão Henriques, the initiative is intended to give immigrants an opportunity to directly express their views on decisions that affect their lives.
