The payment period for Portugal’s municipal property tax (IMI) begins in May, with the first instalment or full amount due by 1 June. Payment schedules depend on the total tax: up to €100 must be paid in a single instalment in May; €100–€500 is split into two payments in May and November; amounts above €500 are divided into three instalments in May, August and November. Taxpayers may choose to pay any amount above €100 in full at the first stage. Payments are made via the Documento Único de Cobrança.
